National Coalition for the Homeless names Stetson professor

The newest president of the Nationwide Coalition for the Homeless, the country’s oldest business committed to supporting people who are homeless and hungry, is a common encounter in DeLand, significantly at Stetson College.

Rajni Shankar-Brown, a professor and the Jessie Ball duPont endowed chair of Social Justice Education and learning, was recently elected the nonprofit’s president, a purpose she’ll hold for a 12 months. She’s held other management roles on the organization’s board about the previous 10 years.

Shankar-Brown, who life in DeLand, hopes to dispel stereotypes about who is homeless and stimulate communities to stop practices that additional damage people who now are struggling.
